Anti-Racism Campaign
Two colleagues and I walked around the streets of a migrant neighborhood to conduct video-interviews and raise awareness about discrimination in the workplace. We asked the workers to share their experiences dealing with racism. Click on the vide links below the photographs to watch the interviews, which include english subtitles. Our grassroots organization participated in a peaceful labor day march advocating for migrant worker rights.
Migrant Workers Task Force
We invited migrant workers from our schools, homes, and streets to join us in a program of empowerment through English and Classical Arabic study. At our sessions, workers from from countries like Sudan, Ethiopia, and the Philippines came together with local activists and students to learn from each other. To create awareness of our programs and raise money, we sold ethnic foods at the weekly farmer's market in the heart of downtown Beirut.
Rotaract of Beirut
In a day of mentorship, over two hundred orphans from three different orphanages in Beirut arrived for a ride on the telefirique with the members of Rotaract Beirut Cosmopolitan. Other service projects include visiting a local elderly home.
SASA
In 2008, I helped found the South Asian Student Association at the Ohio State University, and served as Vice President for the 2008-2009 Academic year. During my tenure, the executive board and I implemented award-winning student programming including BuckeyeMela weekend in collaboration with the Indian American Association and Indian Student Association. Other events include the SASA annual spring picnic fundraiser, leadership retreat, and the One Asian Nation event in collaboration with the Asian American Association.
